Some good, general books on the history of WWII:

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany by William L. Shirer.

One of the most complete and thorough books on the history of the Third Reich, by a man who witnessed some of the events first-hand, and an enjoyable read too. I do however suggest reading the next book also, to get a different and perhaps more accurate perspective on the origins of the Third Reich and WWII:

The Origins of The Second World War by A. J. P. Taylor.

A less one-sided and more objective book on the origins of WWII; everybody interested in the politics leading to WWII should read this book
